This piece is so special to me as it was born in Egypt from the kindness of friends on my last trip.  Our trips to Egypt are normally 2.5 weeks long and filled with many wonderful adventures.  The days and nights are very full.  At home, I normally paint every single day.  To be away from my art studio and supplies for this length of time was something that weighed on my mind. So, imagine my surprise and delight, when I stepped into my cabin room on our private ship to find a large bag filled with all I needed for my watercolor painting!  I was so touched that my friends would do this for me.  I had three glorious days, while we sailed on the Nile, to do some painting on the top deck of the boat.  It was like a dream come true.

For this piece, I was able to put down the first few background layers while feeling the warm breeze as we sailed.  These vibrant colors just jumped onto the paper so easily.  The energy of the Gods and Goddesses is so strong and active in Egypt.  And I wasn’t surprised to see this Egyptian Queen, in all her glory and power, emerge from the stones of a pyramid.  I remember feeling a bit breathless and in awe when I saw what came to life on the paper.  When I returned home, and in the stillness of my art studio, I was able to complete this painting while reliving the memories of this amazing trip.

I’ve mentioned before that I have received spiritual gifts and awakenings each time I’ve traveled to Egypt.  This trip was no different.  I recall what one of our Egyptian friends said to us on our first trip: “When you come here, you don’t see Egypt with your eyes, you experience Egypt with your heart.”  And that is so very true.  My friends in Egypt have become part of our family.  And that is the ultimate gift.
